Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga

Ashtanga yoga: Tuesday and Thursday from 17.00 to 18.30
Vinyasa yoga: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 17.00 to 18.30

Aṣṭāṅga Yoga was born at the beginning of the last century as a modern interpretation of the Haṭha Yoga tradition. Its name refers to the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, an ancient Indian philosophical text in which the eight (aṣṭa) branches (aṅga) of yoga are described as a sort of guide to the spiritual path towards Samādhi, the highest state of Being.

Sri K. Patthabi Jois, its founder, structured this practice as a fixed sequence based on the repetition of asanas (postures) which follow one another according to a dynamic and harmonious flow guided by the breath (vinyāsa). Despite its apparent physicality, Aṣṭāṅga Yoga is more like a moving meditation that aims to connect the mind and body through the flow of energy generated during the practice.

Vinyāsa Yoga is also a dynamic style inspired by the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya, who first identifies the fundamental connection between movement and breath through the transition between postures. Unlike Aṣṭāṅga, however, postures in Vinyāsa yoga do not necessarily follow a fixed sequence, rather they can be combined according to different patterns, like reaching a certain position or focusing on a specific area of the body.
In addition to asanas, we will also practice breathing (Prāṇāyāma), concentration (Dhāraṇā) and relaxation techniques.

Every day, Martina will guide you through the practice at the Yoga Yard of Case Don Ignazio from 17.00 to 18.30

“Yoga means union: union of mind and body, union of self with the divine, union with others and so on. It is a discipline that starts from the body and extends to philosophy and meditation; it works on the concrete to probe if and what is beyond. “
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
